Find Your #WorkBestie

Whether you’re a business owner or a career professional, having a solid group of work friends is a great way to thrive in your workplace. You have someone to co-work with, someone to grab coffee or lunch with or someone to just vent about the drama from Steve in finance. But how do you go about finding your Work Bestie if you work remotely or are a business owner?

If you’re a Career Pro and work remotely….

  1. Take advantage of the opportunities of times your team meets in person (if possible). Suggest a team dinner or happy hour while you’re all together and skip the work talk! My team tries to stay in the same hotel so we can grab a drink in the hotel bar after a long day of meetings.

  2. Find ways to connect on personal similarities. While I’m remote, I have team members in the Midwest who are from not far from where I grew up. We can connect on all things Michigan. Or I have coworkers who also have red hair or curly hair - we share tips and jokes on haircare! Always keep it appropriate.

  3. If you lead a team, find ways to have your team share the things they love with the group. It’s a great way to connect your team on similar interests.

If you’re a business owner and don’t have a team…

  1. Attend networking events (Like the Matchup Mixer!) and seek out individuals who are at similar stages in their business or at the next phase. This will give you friends to relate to and aspire to.

  2. Cowork and engage with others coworking too!! It can be hard to approach a stranger but sometimes it works for the best. We’ve met so many friends through co-working and just sharing a table or discussing projects - people are always curious and its a great way to trigger a conversation.

  3. Engage in FB groups and other online forums for people in your industry. Even if you don’t meet these folks in person - you can create a community of like-minded industry peers that are there for advice, support and inspiration!

No matter what you do - having a work bestie is an important part of how we get through the day. It’s so important to have a community at work and in your personal life to support and cheer you on.

If you’re looking for a fun community with great networking events - check out Glass Ceilings inc! We want to be your #workbestie!
