Why We Love Matchmaking Professionals
Trying to elevate your career or grow your business is a challenge on any given day. We, as women, have an upward climb that is filled with obstacles far out of our control. And that journey can be incredibly lonely if you don’t have a rock solid support team around you. But that can be challenging to find. Attending networking events can be awkward and many times unproductive. Maybe you don’t know anyone there and you’re not the type to just approach folks and strike up a conversation or maybe you do know someone and you just stick with your friend.
When we started our Matchup Mixer events we thought about how unproductive some networking events can be and how the last few we had gone to didn’t really garnish the results we were looking for. And we thought about how can we make a networking event a win-win for everyone? How can we leave with new contacts, friends or opportunities? And it was like a lightbulb went off - what if we curate who our attendees talk to? And provide them with guided conversation starters and make sure they’re meeting people for the exact things need? And thus the Matchup Mixer was born!
So how does it work?
When you purchase a ticket for one of our Matchup Mixer events, you complete a detailed questionnaire explaining what you do, what you’re looking for from the event and who you hope to meet. Each guest completes the same questionnaire and ahead of the event, our team identifies good “matches” for all attendees. When you arrive to the event, you’ll receive a name badge with a identifier on your badge…your match(es) will have the same identifier! To make it even easier to kick off a conversation - we provide our guests with conversation starters. And they’re not the typical “What do you do?, Tell me about yourself.” starters - they’re intended to spark meaningful and intentional conversation that enables our attendees to learn more about their match and to connect on opportunities. Guests are encouraged to exchange social media handles, Linkedin pages, and contact information and following our Intentional Networking framework - we ask that guests schedule time to follow up post event! After our first hour, we encourage a social hour - where everyone mixes and mingles, creating more connections.
Why we love it.
In our previous business, The B Hive Apiary, finding a way to help women build meaningful relationships was key to the growth we saw over 5 years. But as we grew within our own careers and businesses we found navigating more professional events didn’t always facilitate the results we hoped for. For us, seeing women connect, create opportunities for each other and encourage growth (not competition) was inspiring and exciting. We love watching women really build something real, together, professionally.

We host a Matchup Mixer each month, currently in Austin only - with more cities to come, on the third Thursday of each month. You can purchase a ticket for our upcoming Matchup Mixer in our Shop. It is super important for our attendees to be committed to attending. We know things come up, but if you purchase a ticket and fail to attend - you are disrupting a match for another attendee.
